Monier “Mo” Abusaft is a graduate of Wofford College and Vanderbilt University Law School. His journey from Phi Beta Kappa Religion major to dedicated public servant reflects his deep commitment to justice and community.
Monier has never stopped fighting for the community that raised him. As an attorney, he fights for the rights of those without a voice, delivering justice for the wrongfully accused and challenging a broken criminal justice system. On County Council, he has stood up for us: delivering millions of funding to our community, creating new jobs, rebuilding neighborhoods, bringing new investment into the district, and supporting small and minority-owned businesses. Monier has also led the fight for us: taking down the confederate flag off of I-85, and leading the effort to remove corrupt Sheriff Chuck Wright from office.
After earning his Juris Doctorate from Vanderbilt, Mo returned to Spartanburg to serve as a law clerk for State Circuit Court Judge J. Mark Hayes, then joined the South Carolina Supreme Court under Chief Justice Costa Pleicones.

Mo helped initiate Power Up Spartanburg, the largest investment in minority and small business development in the history of Spartanburg County. What began as a $6 million public investment of American Rescue Plan funds was leveraged into nearly $16 million through public-private partnerships, creating a comprehensive ecosystem of capital access, technical assistance, mentorship, and contract-readiness support. Today, Power Up stands as the center of our county’s small and minority business ecosystem.
